Modify properties
« on: April 19, 2007, 08:37:11 AM »
I am using Full Version Standard AutoCAD 2008.

I prefer to keep my Modify Properties floating on my screen rather than docked.  And I prefer to make it AutoHide.  Is there a way to control how long it stays visible.  It seems to me that it only stays visible for 1-2 seconds once I hover off of it.

I have my drawing editor set to NOT be maximized and reduce the width a few pixels worth.  I then drag the properties pallet with control key depressed out of the editor into this blank space.  I actually have flyouts on both sides of my editor set this way on my home 17" screen and have plenty of screen real estate left.

Last I checked, I thought it had something to do with editing a .dll somewhere which I would rather not do, so I don't know much about that method.

Then again, there was somewhere that I changed how long a balloon notification (like the 'xref needs reloading' bubble) stays up before disappearing... which doesn't affect tool palettes but I have a bit set of plans publishing to PDF right now so Autocad is unavailable atm for me.   I'll poke around if no one else answers before I get back into autocad...

What do you mean "Drawing Editor"?  Isn't AutoCAD your drawing Editor.

Josh,
Thanks, whenver you get to it no problem.  I have no problem modifying a dll if it will improve the efficiency at which I work.  And oops, If I mess something I'll just reinstall AutoCAD.

Yes, Civil 3D to be exact, but AutoCAD based.  Upper right of your screen is a big red box and white X. next to it is an icon that controls whether your editor window is maximized (default).  A single square means maximized, click it and it will show 2 boxes.  You can then re-size and move the editor around your screen at will.

EDIT

AACK!  Reverse those widow squares - I was looking at my work dual screen and forgot I was maximized on that one.  sorry for the confusion

Sorry it seems like it isn't available as a sys var like the notify balloons are... odd...  I'm not familiar with the dll option, but I did read about it on the autodesk boards, so you may try searching there?

Not with Vanilla AutoCAD.  With the verticals, yes.

The verts have a FIXEDPROFILE.AWS file and within that file (near the top) are the following lines:
  <PaletteRollupInfo PaletteRollupDelay="600" />
  <PaletteRolloutInfo PaletteRolloutDelay="200" />

The 600 and 200 are in milliseconds.
That controls all of the palettes.

But since you're using Vanilla AutoCAD, well, then I guess your SOL (unless they've changed something in '08).  Sorry.   :-(

They do choose some VERY odd stuff to disallow for vanilla Autocad... things that control general interface seem illogical to deny to those NOT on a vertical platform...

And unfortunate for AutoDesk but given the type of work we do here we'll never go ta a vertical.  Vanilla does everything we need on the AutoCAD side (minus the limitations on the tweaks) but we are using SolidWorks for our other work and as long as my boss is here they will never get rid of it and replace with Inventor.  So shame on you AutoDesk.  We drop a lot of coing for a very bloated Vanilla product that is really limited.

I guess I'm getting off subject now but it's my post so I'll go ahead and hijack it. :-D

If you have Solidworks, I would never get Inventor... I do believe that there is hardly anything Inventor has that Solidworks can't do just as well (within reason)

They are very comparable products, and at times Inventor may have an edge on SW, but often times SW has the edge on IV just the same.  They seem to sort of leap frog.  I used to work for a metal fab job shop where we used Inventor for all our designs (after a switch from Autocad) and I was familiar with both SW and IV at the time, and we worked with some clients who used SW... they would brag to me at one point about some neat features SW had that IV didnt... then a new release of IV came out and it had those features and more, so it was my turn to bust their chops a bit...
